[Name]: Walter White
[Canon]: Breaking Bad
[Age]: 51
[Gender]: Male
[Canon Point]:

After Season 4, Episode 13 (Face-Off). In the end of the episode, Walter and his business partner, Jesse Pinkman, destroy a methamphetamine super-lab- their previous workplace- by explosion. In a canon jumping-off point, those fumes take a bit of a stronger hold on the way out than they'd planned, and the once-familiar walk out to their cars takes them someplace entirely unfamiliar.

[Personality]:

Walt is a well educated man and genius chemist, a founding member of a scientific research company that was nominated for a Nobel Prize and has a net worth in the billions of dollars. Because of a falling out with his two colleagues, he abruptly quit (for a buyout of $5000, the source of lifelong bitterness) and resorted to a life of teaching high school chemistry. It is there that he meets his current business partner, Jesse Pinkman, and finds his true calling- the manufacture and sale of crystal methamphetamines.

Walt can sometimes be seen as picky or somewhat of a tightass, since he always pays close attention to detail. Walt also has a tendency to be jealous, especially when it comes to his partner, Jesse. When their current boss tries to separate the two, voicing concerns about where loyalities lie, Walt lashes out, acting childish- refusing to work, making Jesse feel guilty, and sometimes becoming violent. When Jesse meets a young woman, who takes up most of his time, he tries to convince him that she's not good for him. One night, Walt finds them both unconscious after using heroin, and when she starts to choke on her own vomit, Walt makes no move to help her, and she dies. Perhaps one of Walt's most hidden, but most important personality traits is his ability and sometimes need to manipulate the people and situations around him to his liking. He is capable of both emotional and physical abuse of those that he cares about the most, and at the same time believing he is doing it for their own good, or to protect them.

To Walt, family is the most important thing, and he believes it to be the main driving force in his life. While teaching, he had met and married his wife Skyler, and has two children with her (Walter Junior and Holly). As a highschool teacher, he didn't earn much, so when he was diagnosed with cancer, he despaired on how to pay for the doctors' appointments and the treatment, and even considered no treatment at all. But because of his love for his family, he decided to move forward with treatment, even against his own initial wishes. During the inevitable stress created by cancer treatment and concealing his growing meth empire, Walt's family relationships become strained, but he remains devoted to them- even remaining married to Skyler after she cheated on him with her boss. Walt has done more than questionable things for the sake of family, including killing, lying, and even going so far as to watch an innocent woman overdose and die because he felt she was a negative influence on Jesse. This sometimes leads him to assume a martyr-like position, which becomes fuel both for his manipulations and his genuine feelings of being unloved and unappreciated.

Walt's usual demeanor is reserved and quiet. He comes off as a bit nervous around groups of people, and acts the stereotypical scientist who is more suited to his lab than others. While it could be easy to see this as an act, Walt is not a people person, and is genuinely uncomfortable when others force the spotlight on him. He is very kind and nuturing with his children, and sometimes with Jesse, and has a typical "dad" sense of humor. However, Walt has a darker side to him that begins to come out through his involvment in the drug business, and he gives himself the street name of "Heisenberg". When acting as Heisenberg, or in his secret life, Walt allows himself to become hard, dominating the people around him, speaking up for himself and literally fighting back against those who oppose him. Heisenberg is cold, calculating, and cruel, and doesn't hesitate to kill opponents when necessary. He doesn't fear the knock at his door and opening the door to be shot by an enemy; he is the one who knocks. Walt, on the other hand, peeks out the curtains.

Walt's hypocritical personality is best showcased in the way he treats Jesse. Though they started as business partners, he sees Jesse as part of his family; saving his life multiple times, trying to keep him from using drugs, and even footing the bill to send him to rehab. Despite that, awful things continually happen to Jesse, most of which are Walt's fault- the loss of his girlfriend, an attack by a police officer, becoming briefly homeless, being forced to commit murder- Walt refuses to let go of Jesse, and insists that he needs him. He feels that Jesse is one of the few people who can understand him, his situation, and truly cares about him. He treats Jesse like the high school student he once was, verbally berating him constantly and getting into more than one physical fight with him, but in the end, he truly believes that Jesse will never say no to him.

Walt sees himself as a decent and good person, and believes that what he does is right, or at least the most right that can be done in the situation. Everything he does is for the good of his family. To everyone else, that is up for debate.

[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:

Walt is an extremely knowledgable and skilled chemist, and has shown himself to be more than capable of applying that skill to real life situations. Besides the 99.1% purity of the methamphetamine that he produces (compared to 50-90% street value), he has created a working car battery from spare items lying around in an RV, and destroyed a car with nothing more than a windshield washer. With the needed components, or something close enough, he has the knowledge and capability to make chemical compounds from ricin and dangerous explosives to handmade mayonnaise. Walt is meticulous and a perfectionist, and the results show in his work. Walt is a manipulator of the highest order, and has the ability to spin almost any situation to benefit him in the end. He is able to discern and play on the weaknesses of others, sometimes in subtle ways that can amount to gaslighting and other kinds of emotional abuse, and other times in outright verbal and physical assaults.

Walt's reaction to a situation is generally measured to what he believes is necessary to obtain the result that he wants. However, if his dominance is challenged or if he does not get what he wants, Walt has a tendency to lose his temper and lash out, often in a violent fashion. He has gotten into physical confrontations with Jesse on more than one occasion. He has the general lack of charisma and people skills that is stereotypical to most scientists, and leaves the distribution side of the business to his partner, at least in name. Walt does have a difficult time giving up control, causing a significant amount of stress and fighting in his business with various partners. He shows hesitation in his actions when threats are made against those he professes to care about, and will only make decisions against his own best interest when someone he cares for is in danger.

Walt has shown himself to be a capable driver at reckless speeds, and is an extremely good actor- switching between assumed personas at the drop of a hat (sometimes literally).
